Day 3 - early morning

Temperature:   hot, around 33 Celcius
Weather:   Blue sky, cloudy periods

My flight from Frankfurt all the way to Bangkok took 11 hours.  Yes, eleven hours in total!  Can you believe this!   E l e v e n   h o u r s!   Wow!   That was the longest flight I've ever been on…..and was happy to have done it on an Airbus A380!    That flight was incredibly smooth and service, impeccable!   No complaints here!

The airbus landed at Bangkok International Suvarnabhumi Airport at 6:20am local time.    Once more, I had to advance my watch; an additional seven hours this time.

In total, I’ve lost 13 hours of my precious time through this "time zone barrier" in which I’ve got nothing to account for!    The joys of travelling!   Plus the fact that I looked a real mess after having travelled for the last 28 hours that it took just to get here, well, I guess that surely didn’t help!

Regardless, I was now in Bangkok…..I’ve landed in Bangkok, the land of all smiles and that’s all that mattered!    After brushing through customs, our transfer was waiting for us holding a sign with the hotel’s name of it!    We were rushed to the awaiting BMW, handed hot cloths by the chauffeur to clean our hands with and given cool bottles of water to drink!    Talk about being spoiled!    Mind that I paid for that service!

With the political tension rising in Thailand especially in Bangkok since November of last year, I would be lying if I’d say that I wasn’t’ a little bit apprehensive about coming here!   When one plans a trip nine months in advance, one never knows what can suddenly develop in any countries for that fact!

Having said this and since I’ve been following the news closely on this subject, brushing this aside, I looked forward to my Indochina Encompassed Adventure!   After all, my tour was still on, nothing was cancelled.   The only “Travel Warnings” given to us were to stay away from the protests!   Knowing me, you didn’t have to tell me this twice!

Forty-five minutes later, we arrived at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel where I’ve made reservations several months before!   Just like the pictures I’ve seen on the internet, the hotel didn’t disappoint me.

We were greeted amicably and served right away.   Even though it wasn’t check-in time, after all it was only 8:30 am, keys to our room were given to us anyway.   Plus, lucky us!   Our room was upgraded to a higher floor level since we’re members of SPG - Starwood Preferred Guests.   We were given a room on the 16th floor with a terrific view of the famous Chao Phraya River right below us!   Yeahhhh!
