Day 2 - afternoon/evening
After checking-out of the hotel at 10:00am, a taxi was taken right in front of it. I was quite excited, I was about to come face to face with my cruise ship, the Legend of the Seas!
I could have easily bought a transfer from Royal Caribbean and wait with the other guests till 11:30am in the hotel's lobby but just knowing how it went last year, slow in other words, this time around I much preferred to make my own private arrangements! Plus, it was much cheaper as well!
From the hotel, we were a mere five minute car ride to the port! This way, I’ll be there much earlier and ahead of these people! Smart thinking!
Several minutes later and as the taxi driver turned the corner of a street, the Legend of the Seas could be seen under the light of a clear blue sky. Being much smaller in size compared to the Allure of the Seas, I was still very happy to be going on a cruise and with wishful thinking…..hoped for the best!
You know what I mean……but you should also know that this time around, I came prepared! With me, I had many "motion sickness" patches, two sets of “motion sickness” bracelets, and tons of “motion sickness” pills. You name it, I had it! I just prayed that I’ll be fine for the next fifteen days and wouldn’t get seasick!
Surprisingly, many people were already here at the pier! Had I known I would have come here even earlier! I’ll know better next time even though they recommend that we don’t arrive any earlier than 11:30am. Hmmmmm! I guess not too many people follow instructions! Hehehe!
After leaving our luggage at the pier, we rapidly entered inside the terminal. This was followed by us standing in line with the rest of the “Gold Member” guests! Since my “Set Sail” paperwork had been filled at home, this meant a much faster process!
Unfortunately, too many “Gold Members” people were here all at the same time! Faster or not, it still took a good hour before I was finally able to embark on the ship! Anticipation grew by the minute as I followed the people in front of me! It was a slow process because pictures of each and every one of us had to be taken for our ship passes.
And then we were finally on the cruise ship, we were on Deck 4 of the Legend of the Seas! Having just recently been refurbished, the ship was spotless and appeared up to date! Yeaahhhh
By rapidly taking the stairs, we headed directly to the Windjammer located on Deck 9. It was already crowded with hungry people….like me! After settling at a table for six already occupied by an elderly couple, we rapidly ate our lunch! I didn’t want to waste any more time! I had a ship to explore from top to bottom!
Even though the Legend of the Seas can’t be compared to the Allure of the Seas, I found this one quite cozy and nice! It definitely offered all of the luxuries at sea and that’s what mattered. You have to remember as well that we’re going through the Panama Canal…..a smaller ship is required!
At exactly 1:00pm, we had access to our cabins. Ours was on Deck 7, port side and in the middle of the ship. Cabin number 7046! With a private balcony, sofa and bed, I rapidly settled in and waited for my luggage to arrive!
For some unknown reasons, the ship left the port in the evening at a much later time even though it was supposed to do so at 5:00pm. This suited me quite well! It allowed me to watch the sunset cast its colors on San Diego’s skyscrapers! Breathtaking!
We finally got our luggage at 7:00pm. I was glad they came because I was getting concerned about them but in a certain way, I was quite disappointed to get them so late at night. Most people got them in the afternoon. At least they weren’t lost, stolen or anything like that!
At 7:15am, the Legend of the Seas cruised down San Diego’s Bay towards the Pacific Ocean! My Panama Canal Cruise was just starting….I could feel the movement of the ship but you know what, I wasn’t motion sick at all!
My cruise was starting on a right foot!Monique :-)
