Day 23 - early evening
Day 16 - Northern Experience Tour
35 Celsius, hot
I was the first one to jump off the pontoon and to step foot in Angola! Yay, were the words I yelled with joy as the thrills and enthusiasm of being here got the best of me!
We were here in this foreign country unofficially and illegally which made it even more exciting. Looking around, no one could be seen. We were safe for the time being to wander around and do as we pleased.
The land was mostly flat with trees here and there which gave us an advantage. We could clearly see a fair distance away in case we needed to jump back on the pontoon and "get the hell" out of here in a hurry.
But so far so good; we were fine! No one appeared to be around! No border guards, no policemen, no one except us!
As we stayed within several feet of the river, Moses walked further inland to monitor our surroundings. He was our watchdog scrutinizing the entire area from side to side.
During this time, we were having “a hell of a good time”! Each and every one of us held a sign that Moses had made! It was written on it “Illegally in Angola”. This ought to tell you something! I even did my happy jump while holding it whereas Michel held it in various positions! Hmmm!
So this was the surprise that Moses had kept hidden from us all along! The surprise that he had promised us and kept us in suspense by being secretive about it while teasing us!
Indeed….what a good surprise it was! Who would have thought that I would have stepped foot one day in Angola, especially “illegally”! I was more than happy to tick off “Angola” as another country I've stepped foot on and left my footprints behind!
Fifteen minutes later, we were onboard the pontoon continuing our cruise down the Kavango River as if nothing happened! Monique :-)
