Day 21 - late afternoon
Day 14 - Northern Experience Tour
40 Celsius, blue sunny sky
It was 4:00pm when we left for our afternoon's game drive around Namutoni’s Resort.
Within minutes, a wildebeest was sighted relaxing lazily under the shade of a tree. As we took many pictures of him, he never bothered to turn his head not even for a second just to look at us. Quite an independent little fellow!
Continuing on, Ntando drove along a gigantic waterhole which had the purest blue color of all the waterholes seen so far in this National Park! It was quite a sight!
While no African wildlife was seen here, amazingly hundreds of flamingos stood in the middle of the lake all lined up one next to the other one. No need to tell you…..it was quite beautiful to see their pink shadows reflecting perfectly on the water’s surface.
Along the shore, the water appeared like a purplish color probably due to its shallowness and the sky’s blue color reflecting over it. A few flamingos ate little insects which added beauty to the décor!
For the next two hours, we had many other sightings such as a herd of elephants drinking and playing in a small waterhole. Here, we were quite entertained by a small baby elephant running after a blue bird. As he desperately tried to catch it with his trunk, it went flying all over the place due to his clumsiness.
Apparently from what Alex told us, for the first few years of their lives, baby elephants have trouble controlling their trunks and as they get older, they gain better control and use of it. Interesting facts!
At another waterhole, we had the chance to observe a giraffe drinking water. While this might be an easy task for many other wild animals, for this particular one, it’s entirely a different process because of their long necks. You might have known this already but being here in person and seeing it with my very own eyes, well let me tell you, it's another thing!
Time went by fast and without noticing it, we were back at the resort by 6:00pm! Since dinner wasn’t served until 8:00pm, for me this meant only one thing!
It meant that I had time to go to the waterhole once more and time to watch the sunset from the tower! Now the question remained....will I be able to achieve these two tasks before dinner? Monique :-)
