Day 21 - noon
Day 14 - Northern Experience Tour
40 Celsius, blue sunny sky
Wow, wow and wow! I just couldn't wait to get out of Mhondoro and start exploring the resort appearing like a mirage in the middle of the desert. But first, we needed to have lunch!
By driving around the side of this look alike fortress, Mhondoro was parked right next to the fence in the campground section of the resort. Since the area looked quite inviting, I immediately started exploring the surroundings without going too far away while our guides prepared our lunch!
Cold cuts comprised of processed meat, crackers and cheese spread plus a few veggies made the bulk of the meal plus apples to eat. Within half an hour we’ve finished eating and eagerly awaited our keys to our rooms.
A big "Welcome to Namutoni" sign greeted us on a wooden boardwalk on the side entrance gate of this refuge. On it, arrows pointed in the direction of our rooms so without wasting any more minutes, we headed that route with our guides following us behind while carrying our bags!
This resort was quite different than the other two we’ve stayed at in this Etosha National Park. For a start, it had boardwalks everywhere for us to walk on which were elevated from the ground by a good foot. Remembering the old saying “all good things are kept for last”, in this particular case, it held totally true! I just loved the place!
Each row of lodges had several rooms with each one of them having private balconies and fences made out of small tree branches a good ten feet high for added privacy! As for doors, they were big patio doors allowing more light inside the rooms. And then, the moment of truth! The key was put in the keyhole and the sliding doors pushed wide open!
The room was outstanding! Pure luxury in the middle of this National Game Reserve Park! Comfortable beds with mosquito nets, mini fridge, desks and chairs but most importantly, an ultra-chic en-suite ceramic tiled bathroom with sunken bathtub/shower and huge patio doors the width of the room!
Do you want to hear more…..it had a private shower outside the bathroom surrounded by a good eight foot fence made out again of tree branches! I wished we could have stayed here longer than this one night but unfortunately weren’t!
So without wasting any more of my precious time and since I wanted to make the most of my stay here, it was time to get out of this room and explore more in depth this hideaway! Plus of course, I had to go and check out that waterhole!
