Day 17 - early evening
Day 10 - Northern Experience Tour
28 Celsius, warm breeze
We arrived around 5:30pm at our accommodations for the night, the "Brandberg White Lady Lodge", located in a very remote scenic part of Damaraland in Central Namibia.
Having all of the basic necessities to make it a pleasant stay, our room appeared comfortable enough for a good night's sleep even though daylight could be seen from under the door! For me, you know what that meant!
It meant that geckos, spiders or any large bugs of some sort could have crawled under the door and be inside the room right now! Yerk!!!! But rest assured……after Michel inspected the room from top to bottom, none were found which made me breathe a lot easier afterwards!
I was glad that mosquito nets hung from the ceiling down since we were now till the end of our trip in malaria infested areas and had started taking our preventative pills the day before!
Without wasting any more minute, a nice warm shower was immediately taken to get rid of all of that oily cream and sand sticking on me. And did it feel good! Laundry was also done by good old Michel while nature did its job and rapidly dried my long hair as I stood outside in direct sunlight. According to Michel, I looked just like an animal in my leopard print silk pajamas!
Half an hour later feeling all refreshed and renewed as if a ton of weight had been taken off my body, we were out the door inspecting the grounds while slowly making our way towards the main central lodge located several hundred meters away from the chalets. With no signs at all to guide us there, I used my good old sense of direction!
Being in a remote wildlife area and surrounded by very tall bushes and shrubs, I wondered if wild animals were hidden behind some of them! After all, we were told that elephants were spotted here, so there was always that possibility! Luckily for me, none were seen much to Michel’s regret!
While enjoying the scenic trail, the sunset was painting a hue of colors on the Brandberg Mountain before making its disappearing act behind the mountain’s side. But before doing so, we had time to climb a big rocky mountain right behind the central lodge which gave spectacular views of the valley below and of the surrounding untamed region.
It felt good to breathe deeply and appreciate our time here before making our way down the mountain and then inside the main building!
To be continued….. Monique :-)
