Day 14 - early morning

Day 7 - Northern Experience Tour
            Temperature 25 degrees Celsius

Bonne fête Eric!   All the best on your birthday!   See, I thought of you first thing this morning even though I know that you never read my blogs but instead, only look at the photos!   You'll never know that I’ve wished you a "Happy Birthday"!   Oh, by the way!    I should probably tell you no blogs reading, no gifts!  Hehehe!

We were up at 4:30am this morning because of our early departure time of 5:30am.  The sky was pitched dark and hardly any stars were seen but I was ready and more than anxious to get the show going!

Luckily for us, today was our turn to sit on the single seats located one behind the other one on the left side of Mhondoro.   It couldn’t have happened on any better day because you see, for me this translated to better photo opportunities at the front and on either side of the vehicle.   Yeahhh!

From the lodge way up to the entrance gates of Sesriem / Sossusvlei Namib Naukluft Park, we had more than an hour drive ahead of us, 70 km in total!  Most of us dozed off and I was one of them too!   As excited as I was, I still needed my baby sleep!   Hehehe!

The dirt roads were quite bumpy and everything shook and rattled in Mhondoro but time went by fast and by 6:30am, we were finally there!    We were at the front entrance gates of this popular Namib Naukluft Park!!   You might wonder why all this rush to be here in the first place but what you don’t know is that we had to be here early enough to see the sunrise over the dunes!   So now you know!

Three cars were already parked ahead of us and shortly afterwards, many more started to arrive behind us.   Since the gates didn’t open before 7:00am, we had time to stretch out a little bit and go to the loos because once past those gates, none were around!   Mind that I now considered myself an expert in the “behind the bush” option!

Without a minute too early, at exactly 7:00am, the gates were open and like a bunch of madmen, we all rushed in with our drivers driving full speed ahead in order to reach the dunes before sunrise!

To be continued….
