Day 10 – morning/afternoonDay 3 – Northern Experience Tour Blue skies, hot day – 35 Celsius
We had an 8:00am departure this morning and I can tell you that I was ready and excited to see what today had in store for me!
The sky was gorgeous looking with promises of temperatures reaching the high–thirties to low forties……and this, all in the shade! Wow! What more can a person ask for except be thankful that Mhondoro had air-conditioning!
Since I was seated in the third row on the right side of the overland truck today, unfortunately my view of the front wasn't as good as yesterday…..more heads blocking my view……but at least, I had my side window to satisfy my thirst of landscape.
We travelled up the West Coast heading further north while passing through some magnificent mountain ranges of the Namaqualand region as my African journey continued. The roads were paved, in good conditions and quite light in traffic. No complaints here!
Four hours later, a one hour stop was made along the road where we had lunch prepared by our guides once again. I was starting to enjoy this kind of travelling and used to these sporadic stops in the middle of nowhere with no facilities around! But hey…..at least there were lots of bushes all around! Yep…..
This was followed by a brief stop in a small dormant village a couple of hours later. We were here to purchase some bottled water at a grocery store and for our guides to stock up on groceries for the next two days! You see, we were about to leave South Africa and head into Namibia!
We were heading to the Orange River, this natural border between South Africa and Namibia where we would stay for the next two days! We were told that once there, all we had to do was put our feet up, relax and let the currents take us downstream the Orange River……mind the rapids though!
Fantastic…..I was already looking forward to my relaxation and adventures ahead of me….
To be continued…Monique :-)
