Day 9 – morningDay 2 – Northern Experience Tour Blue skies, sunny & warm day – 30 Celsius
By 8:30am, most of us were waiting outside the hotel's front entrance doors. This is how much excited we were, me included!
NTando proceeded to show us the 12-seater 4x4 safari vehicle. By walking all around it, locked compartment doors were open as he pointed out the purpose of each and every one of them. The vehicle even had a fridge to stock up food purchased along the route plus a smaller one inside to keep our water bottles cold! How cool is that!
To top this of, this 4x4 overland safari vehicle had a name! Are you ready for it…….Mhondoro which meant "Lion" in the Shona language! I should tell you that the Shona language is derived from the biggest tribe in Zimbabwe. Anyway, it was a good thing that the name was written on the side of the vehicle’s doors because I never would have remembered it.
And now the moment of truth! Yes, I was the first one to board Mhondoro! I had the advantage of choosing where I wanted to sit on this first day of my overland safari tour! But guess where I chose to sit!
Not wanting to show too much greed, I chose to sit in the second row on the right side of the vehicle while hoping that I had made the right decision where photo opportunities are concerned! Ha, ha, ha!
And then we were off! Yes, I was finally at the start of my three weeks overland tour where I’ll be travelling through four of Africa’s southern countries! Yeahhhh!
It's funny how things are because......In my imaginary mind of mine, I could see myself sitting in this 12-seater vehicle heading down the road of this unknown African land not knowing what to expect! But I can tell you one thing…..just thinking about the thrills and excitement ahead of me made me even hungrier for adventure! Looking at my watch, it was 9:15am.Monique :-)
