Day 12 - afternoon / evening

The sun was quite welcomed as it warmed me up while I ate my yogurt and fruits and glanced at the same time at the panoramic views of Assisi right below me!   I could picture myself living here, yep that's it daydreaming again as there was something about the peacefulness of this town that made me feel right at home!

Moving on, many cobblestone streets were walked on and side alleys explored.  Many lovely pots full of flowers decorated the structures and added beauty to the vistas.   Shops selling tons of religious items were everywhere as well as other ones selling stuff like ceramic, pastry, jewelry and gelato!   Hmmmm, yummy!  No, we didn’t buy any gelato….Michel wants me to say I was too cheap!   Hehehe!

Time went by quite fast and next thing I knew it was 2:30pm; it was time to meet the group.   Together, we followed Ernesta way up to an area called Mount Subasion where we enjoyed a guided visit with a local guide inside the Basilica of St. Francis.  Unfortunately, no pictures were allowed inside the church but that didn’t stop me from taking tons of them of the church exterior grounds!

It was 4:30pm when we left the premises and twenty minutes later, had arrived at our hotel for the night.  We stayed at the Roseo Hotel Assisi, a very huge complex in an isolated area up a hill but the vistas from here of the valley below were nothing to complain about!

Since I was quite anxious to explore the hotel’s exterior grounds, once the keys to our room were given, I hastily made my way with Michel down a long dark hallway where our room was at the very end of it!    How nice!

Without being too much luxurious looking, it was simple and cozy and had several paintings of St. Francis decorating the walls!   We were on the main floor and from our bedroom small patio terrace the mountains could be seen populating the landscape amongst other things such as the parking lot!

Needless to say, I didn’t stay in the room very long and quickly disappeared with Michel to the hotel’s exterior gardens where the vistas were much better.   Plus guess what!  Along the way, we met the manager who brought us to the hotel’s top terrace where amazing views of the sunset illuminating the medieval town of Assisi could be seen.

Wine was served before dinner in the hotel’s lounge.  I chose red over white and after a few sips, gladly gave the rest to Michel!  Not much of a wine drinker!    Interestingly, our group was the only one staying in this hotel for the night.   Imagine, we had this entire gigantic place all to ourselves!   Felt like playing hide and seek!   Ha, ha, ha!

Dinner was in a banquet room situated in the basement.   It was a buffet style meal where a variety of food was to choose from.  I had pasta with veggies and fries!   Yummy!   Michel had chicken.

By 7:30pm, everything was done and over with and we each retreated to our rooms.   After all, there wasn’t’ very much to do here being isolated from civilization on top of a hill plus secondly, we were all tired!
