Day 14 - early morning
This morning like every other morning, I got up at dawn and stood outside the hotel in search of the sunrise! I was happy that this particular hotel had a patio terrace on its top 4th floor that offered panoramic vistas. It certainly made it a lot easier for me being on higher grounds plus different at the same time. It was 6:00am and I was the only one out with Michel.
Looking around, it soon became apparent that due to all of the surrounding mountains on the east side of us, the sun couldn't be seen. What could be seen though was the horizon being illuminated by a rainbow of colors! It was better than nothing and succeeded in satisfying my thirst of sunrise hunting!
Next to this top 4th
floor terrace and under enclosed patio doors, was our banquet room where we had breakfast at. Being the first ones in, as usual, I chose to sit at a round table right next to the window which allowed me to occasionally glance at the progress of the sky’s colors. As time went by, others arrived and joined us at our table!
We left the hotel quite early this morning, 6:45am and followed Ernesta down an alley that led us to the edge of a cliff after having walked a good fifteen minutes or so. We must have been a good five stories high from sea level but what an incredible view we had. Many flowers and statues decorated the small park making the entire area quite beautiful.
With tickets in hand, an elevator was taken which immediately brought us down to sea level. It had been constructed inside the hard rock cliff and could accommodate a large number of people at a time.
Many people were already standing at the pier when we arrived. They were waiting for the ferry boat to bring them to the Island of Capri, an island of dreams and I was one of them with the rest of the group!
From reading our day’s itinerary, I was becoming quite excited about going there! I have to say though that since I didn’t want to take any chances of having my day ruined, a seasickness pill was taken early this morning. I was now ready for the ferry boat called the "Europa Jet" to rock! It was 7:30am when we started to board the boat.
The sea wasn’t that much agitated and succeeded in making the 40 minute voyage a very pleasant one even though the breeze was a little bit on the cooler side. I shouldn’t be complaining because this was a little bit of my fault. After all, this ferry boat was cruising at a very high speed and I was standing right on the top open deck. What can I say except that this is what you get for wanting to take as much pictures as I do! You have to suffer a bit! Ha, ha, ha!
Michel and I didn’t stay put in one place for long periods of time. We constantly kept moving around the top open deck before eventually deciding to go to the lower enclosed level where at least there, we were protected from the breeze. The ferry boat was crowded with people but at least we could circulate with ease without stepping on everyone’s foot.
In the distance, the Island of Capri which appeared quite small at the beginning was now getting bigger and bigger as we rapidly approached it. Beautiful turquoise colored waters and white painted houses built on high sea cliffs were picturesque scenes being displayed in front of me. I was getting 'un avant-goût’, a taste as to what was soon to be discovered on this island that some called “the island of dreams”! No need to ask me why!Monique :-)
