Day 8 - evening
Right after leaving Milan, we were driven on highways that brought us through mountain ranges and hills where the scenery was totally spectacular. High above these mountains, sometimes I could see bridges with arches known as crossing routes or better yet, known as passes! They probably were dating from medieval times because they looked quite old but hey, I'm no expert here! We were heading north and deeper into these mountain ranges….these majestic mountains known as the Alps! Yeahhhh!
While Michel took a short nap right next to me, I stayed fixed to the bus's window looking at the sky in the horizon as it turned a palette of colors! This kept me occupied for a while just watching the sunset that was giving me a phenomenal show before disappearing for the night behind the greyish mountains.
And then without warning, dusk suddenly took over followed by darkness! At this point and with much regret, the landscape could no longer be seen except….. I still had my imagination to help me figuring out all those dark shadows that were dancing in the far distance!
During this time, our driver Ciro drove on winding roads, sometimes at higher speed as if time was of the essence. Due to the fact that the traffic was scarce, he took fully advantage of the situation by driving like a madman, a nice madman that’s it, on both lanes as he switched back and forth from one side to the other one cutting off corners and gaining on time. You’re probably wondering why I know all of this. Well, I was sitting in the front row of the bus right across from him and watching his every move!
It was obvious that he knew quite well the roads and his way around by the palm of his hands: his driving skills surely proved this to me! Glancing around the bus, most of the people were sleeping! They’ll never know what was taking place! Ha, ha, ha!
Looking straight ahead of me, the highway led us often directly into dark tunnel passages dug through these huge mountain ranges. And here I was sitting in this motor coach and wondering if I wasn’t dreaming as our bus looked just like a miniature toy right next to these impressive Alps!
I must have dozed off for a while because when I woke up, complete darkness surrounded us! However, we were still heading north and by now, I was getting quite anxious to arrive at our lake-side resort on beautiful Lake Maggiore!Monique :-)
