Day 4 - early afternoon

With wired fences posted everywhere along the sidewalks, we couldn't even cross the street and had to retrace our steps all the way back to our hotel and take another route from there in order to get to the other side of the street from where we stood near the Colosseum. Groannnn!   What a pain it was to do this kind of a big "U" turn: and unfortunately, loose precious minutes just to do it; like an hour or so!

The sidewalks were crowded with people cheering the runners.  There must have been thousands of them running down the designated routes while occasionally grabbing water placed on tables along the sidewalks.  After drinking a few sips, the cups were carelessly thrown on the ground which at this point was starting to get dirty from all of this disposed garbage.

You’ll be happy to know that in due course, we were able to reach the Via del Corso Street, one of the main streets here in Ancient Rome and right next to the Colosseum.  This being exactly where we were an hour ago but on the other side of the street!  Groannnn!

At least from here on, even though the runners were running down the street, there wasn’t any temporarily fences installed.  We could cross the street and get to the other side of it without any problems.  Yeahhh!  All we had to do was run in between the runners, if you get the picture!

It was 1:00pm now; much later than I hoped for.  At least the worst was done and all we had to do was walk down this street all the way to the end of it while admiring the shops and ancient structures all around us.  Many famous designer boutiques were seen but since I wasn’t here to shop, I just glanced at the beautiful window displays.  And yes, nothing was bought to Michel’s enthusiasm!

We eventually reached the end of this very long Via del Corso Street and arrived at the Piazza del Popolo square in Ancient Rome or Center of Rome if you want to call it.  Pass this area, you were in other sections of Rome which we didn’t want to visit.  We wanted to concentrate ourselves in the Ancient section of the city and explore it to its depth meaning from North to South and from East to West!  We were now in the North side of it.
