After having been met by the tour representative at the bus terminal in Ica, we followed Carlos to his car where he gave us a city tour around Ica before heading to the vineyards of Pisco.
At the vineyards of Pisco, we did a nice walking tour around the place and were explained how this delicious Peruvian drink was made. According to history, this Brandy-like liquor was made since 1540 in Peru and at this time, was simply known as a spirit drink. It wasn't until the 17th century that the grape brandy was baptized to Pisco. At the end of the tour, we were given a complimentary drink, the famous Pisco! Salud!
By then, it was around 3:00PM in the afternoon in which we were brought to our hotel in Huacachina, our place to stay for the next two days, the Hosteria Suiza. Ever since I had seen a picture of Huacachina, an oasis in the middle of the desert, I wanted to go there. I definitely wanted to see the place in person since I had fallen in love with everything about it. So, here I was, realizing my dream one more time. I sure wasn't disappointed.
What a lovely place, absolutely breathtaking with the lovely palm trees surrounding the natural lagoon, the mountains of sands, the deep blue sky, the warm breeze, but most of all, the atmosphere, the cozyness!. The place had a special attraction to me being an oasis in the middle of the desert, the Ica desert. Something to dream about and I was in that dream, living it right now! My moment in time!
We had two hours on our own, so, off we went Michel and I exploring Huacachina. The place is really small, you can walk all around it within probably fifteen minutes, but it is special. Little souvenir shops, cafés, restaurants are what you find here. Nothing much but it is simply a place to relax, a place simply to enjoy yourself being surrounded by these enormous sand dunes.
We had a delicious late lunch on the terrace near the lagoon. The owners, spoke English, but regardless, I got to hablar y practicar mi Espanol un poquito. We retreated to our hotel afterwards in preparation for our next adventure which was about to start in any minute!
Thankful for Huacachina's oasis!
