Day 10 (mid-morning to mid-afternoon)

Temperature:   23 degrees
Weather:   cloudy and foggy

Today was supposed to be a day of leisure.  A day to relax and do absolutely nothing except enjoy the facilities of our hotel overlooking the Mediterranean Sea or explore on our own the city of Antalya!

However, for those of us who were more adventurous, Daghan informed us that a 5 hour boat trip on the Mediterranean Sea could be organized!  That even though today was his day off, if sufficient people were interesting into going, he could organized the trip and join us as well!  Within seconds, all of our hands were up which meant yes, yes, yes, let's go!

And so began my Mediterranean Sea boat ride adventure for the day…..Hurrah!

Being now $100.00 US$ poorer but for a good cause, Michel and I waited patiently at the front of the Marmara Hotel for the other people from the group to arrive.  It was 9:00am and we had just returned from our early morning exploration of the hotel’s surroundings in which we found an area that brought us down the cliff and to sea level.

I was really looking forward to my Mediterranean Sea boat ride!  It was still very cloudy but at least the weather was warm.   Looking up into the grey sky, so far so good, it wasn’t raining.  Had it been, the boat tour probably would have been cancelled.

Half an hour later, the motor coach made a complete stop in an area close to the port.  We all followed Daghan down narrow cobblestone streets which gave us an illusion of being in a labyrinth due to its several zigzagging alleys. We were passing through a flea market where merchants cheerfully greeted us by inviting us into their stores.  "On my way back", I promised them all because now, I had a date with a Mediterranean Sea boat!

The boat was medium size and looked like a pirate ship.  It bore the name “Cengizhan” which probably meant something but I’ll never know!   I was the first one to board it and elected to sit way at the front of it on the open deck!

I had the time of my life.  As the captain navigated the boat, I steadily looked straight in front of me feeling the warm breeze on my face as I gazed dreamily at the open Sea.  Due to the haziness, the visibility was poor and one couldn’t see far, far away but the surroundings had this mystical appearance that made it even more thrilling and exciting.

The captain navigated the boat along the cliffs of the Mediterranean Sea for a good two hours where huge boulders were seen in the turquoise color water.  It was breathtaking under this weather condition ……so just imagine it when the sky is blue and the sun is shining in the sky!  It must be even more stunning!  We passed right along three beautiful waterfalls, the latter being the biggest.  It wasn’t the Iguazu Falls that I had seen in Brazil, definitely no comparison here, but they were waterfalls and with its surroundings, they were amazing!

A half an hour stop was made right close to the falls where the captain of the boat dropped the anchor into the sea.  For those of us who dared, we could jump into the sea and swim right close to the falls.  Well, I did not dare, only a handful of men did!  Michel was one of them!

On the way back to shore, the views were even more stunning.  I can honestly say that I had an extremely nice afternoon and fully enjoyed the time spent on the boat.  Several of us women even did the “Titanic pose!”

Once back on land, we were given ample of time to wander around the flea market in which I purchased several items!  It was comfortable just to walk around the various alleys and no, we did not get lost!

By the time we made it back to the Marmara Antalya hotel, it started to rain, this being the first time since we’d been here in Turkey!  Otherwise, we had fantastic sunny days so far!  Oh well…..can’t have everything but at least, our boat ride wasn’t cancelled!  By now it was only 4:00pm and we still had the rest of the day at our leisure!   Plus guess what?   A huge Shopping Mall was a mere 15 minute walk from our hotel!
