Day 14 (Tuesday)

Temperature: 30 degrees
Weather:  hot

It felt kind of creepy to be out on the Amazon River at 3:30am in the morning in total darkness sitting on a small wooden canoe.  The rainforest was very much alive as the soft wind whistled through the branches while the sound of the jungle echoed all around me.  We were being brought back to civilization, back to Manaus for our early morning connecting flight to Sao Paulo and then finally to Lima, our planned destination.

As the lodge's staff person navigated the canoe in total darkness, my stomach rumbled with discomfort… wasn’t the time to be sick I kept saying to myself while gazing half asleep at the faint light guiding us in the far distance.

As exhausted as I was, I must have dozed on and off several times while resting my head on Michel’s shoulders for support.  We were at the end of our Brazil’s Tour but at the start of newer adventures in Peru even though we were staying there for only a few days.  At least, we weren’t going back home right away which made me quite happy.

At the wharf, a transfer to the airport was already waiting for us.  I had doubts about the tour’s representative being there so early in the morning but yes, he definitely was much to my delight.  Half an hour later, we were at the airport having a bite to eat.  Our flight departed on time at 6:50am and at 11:30am, we were in Sao Paulo.  We still had six and a half hours of wait before our international flight to Lima, Peru.

My lack of sleep was starting to catch up on me.  I was starting to be exhausted again plus to make matters worse my stomach cramps were even more upsetting.  Groan!  Probably a result of all that food in the Amazon I told Michel while swallowing some relief pills.  As for the mighty Michel, he too was starting to feel under the weather!  That will teach him to laugh at me!  Ha, ha!

After walking around the airport several times and since it was getting kind of stuffy in there, we decided to have a change of scenery and a breath of fresh air.  Therefore, out the doors we went being greeted by very warm air and a bright sunny sky in front of us!   We were in Sao Paulo, a city we’ve never set foot before, so common sense dictated us to at least, take a look outside the airport.

Many huge mountains decorated the landscape in the far distance.  It made me wondered that maybe, just maybe, I should have booked a few extra days here just to explore the city and see what it had to offer.  It could have been interesting!  Some other times….maybe!

So that’s it!   We rested….well….I slept a little bit….on hard cement benches outside Sao Paulo’s airport and drank tons of water to prevent dehydration.  Feeling much better a few hours later, we passed the gate and at 5:50pm had boarded our international flight back to Lima.   By 9:00pm in the evening, 18hours later to be more precise, we had landed in Peru under a dark cloudy sky.  We were back to square one and in familiar surroundings.

After passing through customs without any problems, the newlyweds, Justin and Fiorella were waiting for us at the gate.   Since their marriage, so many things were SEEN and DONE by both Michel and me on our Tour to Brazil that now, it felt as if they've been married ages ago…..whereas actually….it was only 10 days ago!  As the old saying goes "time flies when you’re having fun" and that’s exactly what happened to us!
