Day 12 (afternoon)

Temperature:  36 degrees
Weather:  hot and humid

A stop was made where we all got out of the boat and proceeded to follow our guide Antonio on a very high elevated wooden platform.  Below us, wild plants and grass grew thickly on the rich wet soil.  There might have been some crawling reptiles or whatever hidden behind all of this deep green vegetation but I for one, would definitely not have dared to walk on the ground’s surface.  I was quite happy where I was, a good 15 feet way above the soil!

This wooden platform brought us deeper inland where after having walked for a good twenty minutes, we were above a swamp with a view to die for!  We were surrounded by huge pink water lilies with gigantic foliage.  Unbelievable…..when I say gigantic, they were, believe me, a good two feet wide if not more!   They were incredible and sooooo beautiful!!

Big alligators rested on top of the foliage in the dark coloured waters while some small ones played together and fought.  Chunks of meat were tossed into the swamp by our guide Antonio demonstrating to us several of the reptiles fast reflexes.  We must have stayed here for a good half an hour enjoying the views and listening to the sound of the Amazon rainforest.   It was quite an unbelievable ambiance which words cannot explain its grandeur.
