---------------------------------------------Brazil Tour Day 1 - Rio de Janeiro
After having had a nice refreshing shower, it was now time to go out and have fun starting with a good relaxing dinner. Right next to our hotel, a fine cozy little Italian restaurant with a front terrace looked quite inviting. Therefore, in that direction we went sitting close to the shrubs at the front of the terrace giving me a grand view of the Copacabana Beach along the famous boardwalk.
Darkness soon enveloped us while we looked at the menu. Michel settled for fish and chips while I went for lasagna with garlic bread. Hmmmm, it was delicious! We stayed longer than planned at the restaurant since the atmosphere on the terrace was quite pleasant and the weather, well, no complaints there! Plus my pina colada was excellente!
Looking all around me, it was quite obvious that people in Rio never slept. Even though it was close to 10:00pm….in my standards late….the flamboyant city was quite alive along the beach where tons of people walked or even rollerbladed on the quite well illuminated boardwalk. Never a dull moment! As well, the countless restaurants and many bars were packed. We felt quite safe amongst tourists and locals, nevertheless as it was recommended didn't carry any unnecessary valuables with us nor went into any dark side alleys.
Having had a very long day, we eventually retreated to our room but not before going to the hotel’s rooftop terrace to observe Copacabana’s beach at night from high above the city. Welllllll…..we had quite a stunning view to say the least! Plus the statue of Christ the Redeemer just behind me looked like a dramatic icon high above the Corcovado Mountain as it was illuminated by a powerful lighting system overlooking the city below. It was a nice way to end my first day here in Rio!
