----------------------------------------------------------------Brazil Tour Day 1 – Rio de Janeiro
"Welcome to Rio de Janeiro" the sign said when we went through the exit gates after passing through customs. Our representative from the tour company was already waiting for us holding a sign way up in the air with our names on it. Having heard so many negative stories about Rio, as excited as I was to visit the flamboyant city, I was also apprehensive.
As Tia introduced herself, we were given a brief orientation of our trip here in Rio de Janeiro on our way to the hotel. She was also able to put our mind at ease on several safety issues as she went on and on and on talking about several things. The traffic was quite light making it a pleasant ride to enjoy as I admired the sunrise and stunning mountainous landscape of Rio de Janeiro.
By 8:00am, we were at our hotel, the Windsor Excelsior which sat on a wide corner lot offering excellent ocean views across from the famous Copacabana Beach. We were definitely here for a treat as I scrutinized my surroundings!
We had the entire day at our leisure for us to enjoy the city and to do whatever we felt like doing. Since our room wasn't ready yet, Michel and I decided to go to the rooftop swimming pool and terrace which was definitely a great place to unwind and to relax after a long night flight.
The 360 degrees panoramic view from the rooftop was absolutely stunning. In one corner, I could see the Sugarloaf Mountain with the cable cars, behind the hotel, the Christ Redeemer statue standing proudly and gigantic above the Sin city and in front of the hotel, a fantastic view of the Copacabana Beach with its white powdery sands and crystal blue waters.
I elected to sit in the sun which gave me the warmth that I wanted and it felt sooooo good! Michel went for the shade. Looking at the swimming pool, it was very tempting to jump in as I dipped my feet in just to check the water. I must have snoozed a bit because when I woke up, even though it was still very early for 10:30am, the Copacabana beach was already crowded with people, the brilliant sun was already high above the deep blue sky and the warm weather was even hotter!
Going downstairs to the lobby, surprisingly we were told that our room was ready for us which was definitely good news because we were still in mid morning…..hourra! That meant that we could finally change, put on some much lighter clothes and get on with the day!! So many things to do, so many places to see!
