As I got up this morning and looked outside, the sun was shining and the sky was blue. Wouldn't it be nice just to drive to the Laurentians today and enjoy this nice weather and see the leaves before they start falling off the trees!.
This time of year, the Laurentians in Quebec offer spectacular views of their mountains richly dressed with multicolour golden leaves. I just couldn't resist the temptation nor didn't have to convince myself very hard having postpone this trip so many times in the past. This was a good time as ever.
The ride by car took 2 hours and a half and the traffic was quite light. Not so bad considering that today, being Thanksgiving and being a statutory holiday, the traffic could have been heavier. Along the way, a few stops were made to take pictures of the beautiful fall scenes along the road.
Having left at 9:00am, we arrived at Mont Tremblant, Quebec at 11:30am. The place was already packed with tourists and people like us, just wanting to get away for one day. We made our way from the parking lot to the ski resort village of Mont Tremblant which is just at the bottom of this majestic mountain. I thought to myself "What a lovely place this is" having not been here since five years ago. The place was again more beautiful than I had remembered. Lovely little shops, restaurants, boutiques, lodges, resorts, and even a casino, all nicely decorated that made this small village look like a picture right out of a fairy book.
We proceeded walking along the cobblestone pavement, up the hill, looking here and there. The colour of the trees surrounding us were breathtaking. Rich golden and red fire colours. The resorts were all outstanding and had the old Quebec architecture feeling. All very beautiful.
Once we made our way to the hilltop, we had two options. Either take the gondola or hike the 2871 feet (875 meters) to the summit of Mont Tremblant mountain. Being a beautiful day, we elected to hike. The pathway looked so tempting. Therefore off we went.
Beautiful scenes were opening in front of us. Water cascading off the mountain, trees with their richly coloured leaves, beautiful pathways, everything was just outstanding. There, stood a huge boulder rock. Mi just couldn't resist it, he had to climb it. We then followed the trail's arrows leading us deeper into the woods. In several places, there were stairs to climb, rocks to walk on, little streams to jump over or leaves to just pick up.
The hike at the beginning was easy, but we were only starting. I didn't know what to expect or what was ahead of me but I didn't mind. I was living my dream of the day.
Mi, full of energy, was always leading the way by a good 20 feet. Whereas for me, I was taking my time, savoring the landscape and taking pictures. After a good 45 minutes, we were halfway up the mountain.
Looking down was tempting but I was here to reach a goal and up, I will go. The last 45 minutes were a little more harder for me because the mountain was more rocky, more stiff and in several places, slippery. But slowly and surely, up I went to finally arrive at the top of Mount Tremblant one and a half hour later. I had conquered the mountain and felt proud of myself but out of breath at the same time. From my standing point, the Laurentians were opening in front of me. I could see as far away that I could. The mountains were all majestic with their coloured leaves.
After having had time to relax, chat, explore the surroundings, off we went to purchase tickets for the gondola ride down. It was well deserved. I sure was not going to walk all the way down the mountain, having just climbed it.
In the gondola, again, the view was enjoyed and it proved to be exciting. It took a good 8 to 10 minutes. Once we got out of it, we proceeded walking around the place and do some window shopping. We spoiled ourselves by buying a Beavertail. It is pastry made to look just like a beaver tail with sugar and cinnamon on it. It was delicious. Yummm!
Around 3:30pm, we called it quit deciding to start heading home and to stop on our way for a bite to eat. The traffic, at certain places, was heavy, whereas light at other places. We elected to eat at the Laurentian's McDonald which was along the road. It is a very huge place. I had a ceasar supreme salad and Mi, a chicken burger with fries.
We arrived home at 6:00pm after a very funfilled day. When we left this morning, little did we knew that we were going to climb Mont Tremblant's mountain because we sure were not dressed for it. But we did it and it was fun and exciting. These are precious moments in time that one will always cherish and remember.
At the end of the day I promised myself that I will not wait another 5 years before returning to the place.
Thankful for fall,
