On our way to the Valley of the Queens, a brief stop was made at an Alabaster Shop where a demonstration was given showing us how this dense translucent, white/tinted fine-grained kind of rock was processed from its rocky nature into a beautiful polished vase or into any other desired shape.

It was interesting just listening to the pleasant merchant and once he had finished talking, we wandered inside the shop.  I didn't purchase anything but one of the locals gave me a small piece of the stone as a souvenir.

Thankful for alabaster!
