Where I stayed
The severe structural problems encountered by the King Snorfu while building the Bent Pyramid led him to build another pyramid a small distance to the North.
Looking down the small passageway of 3 feet by four feet and of approx. an angle of 7 o'clock going down and a length of approx. 200 feet long, Michel and I proceeded going down the very dark shaft by holding on to the handrails. The more we were descending, the more the air quality was getting bad and the warmer it was getting. We were the only ones inside.
The second chamber looked similar to the first one and at the end, a staircase had been installed to allow access to the third and final chamber being approx. 25 feet above the floor of this second chamber.
Going back proved to be a little bit more difficult than going in since by then, I was extremely exhausted from the heat and the smell inside the pyramid. Steps had to be mounted in a bending position.
Looking up, way way up the passageway, I could see the outside light from the small opening which seemed to be soooo far away. Every ten steps I took, a rest and a deep breath had to be taken and a drink from my bottled water swallowed just to be repeated all over and over again.
It was 4:00pm when we all left Dahshur and started heading back to Cairo, back to reality, back to chaotic traffic.
My second day here in Egypt was quite an adventure in itself for having done, seen and accomplished so many things! It was only the beginning of so many more adventures to follow!
Thanking for having stood inside the Red Pyramid!
