Because we set up in damp windy weather just before dark, we didn't have time to really explore this park.  In the morning light it looked great and when we talked to some of the other residents, we were sorry that we would not be able to stay longer.  A Winnebago/Itasca rally was expected to take over most of the sites for the weekend.  On top of that, we didn't get a chance to try the highly rated Cajun restaurants in the area!  We settled for a stop at Poche's Market to pick up some in-house made sausages, crayfish and some of the best fried chicken we have ever eaten (for lunch).  For anyone traveling I10, in the vicinity of exit 109, I recommend a stop!
While walking around the fish pond we met the people on the site beside us and one thing led to another - and led to us planning to meet at the Lockhart State Park tonight so that we could check out a micro brewery in the area.  We didn't arrive until after dark and haven't connected yet but expect to do so in the morning.

Today's trip was uneventful and we are glad to leave the swamps and gulf weather behind.  We gave Houston a miss today, other than a drive through the center of town, and there was little along the way to capture our interest.  Today was my day to limp around.  The wavy, bumpy roads in Louisiana have irritated my lower back and I am moving gingerly.  The ice packs are in use and with care I should be back into sightseeing mode in a day or two.

It felt good to get back to flat big sky country - although the latter part of the trip was through country that reminded us of home.  We are about 25 miles north of I10 tonight, strategically placed to visit Austin and/or San Antonio areas.  We could only book for two nights and don't like the thought of moving on a Saturday but maybe it will work out.  The parks are often full on Saturday night.
