Went to the Roskilde Festival campsite on Wednesday (festival opened on the Sunday however no bands until Thursday) to find a suitable camping spot (but not to stay there that night as we still had one night left at our hotel). Met up with JohnB and explored the site. Lovely weather that day and not much mud at all. Roskilde festival is a much smaller version of Glastonbury but the bonus is that it isnt in the middle of nowhere....Roskilde town is a 15min bus ride away. REAL toilet blocks available too...not just portaloos. HOWEVER people were pissing and shitting EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE...not due to the lack of toilets but because of the queues. It wasnt just the guys...plenty of girls squatting in full view without shame.
On Thursday it rained nonstop for over 12 hours. We tried to put up with it to watch the bands but got completely saturated and gave up and retreated to our tent. There was so much rain that many parts of the festival site flooded. Luckily for us our tent in a good spot.
On Friday it stopped raining, a much more enjoyable day. But in true festival form there was mud everywhere...still not as bad as glastonbury howver the SMELL was putrid.
On the brighter side of things...we were told that if the weather had been sunny and dry, there would have been plenty of URINE DUST being blown about...fancy inhaling some and getting an infection from it...
Anyway, enjoyed the bands way much more than Glastonbury however the Danish are CRAZY! at least the pot smoking hippies and pillpopping ravers at Glastonbury were clean and polite...and respectful of the environment...but the Danish....theyre ANIMALS...and we thought Australians were loud and obnoxious when drunk.
Very mixed feelings overall for this festival...the bands were good...everything else was an eyeopener.
Bands we saw included -
Kloak
The Psyke Project
Katatonia
In Flames
Mustasch
Hatesphere
Machinehead
The Flaming Lips
The Who
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Pelican
Muse

Roskile Festival :1
We've been woken up several nights in a row to them screaming gibberish at 4-5 am and blowing what sounded like foghorns. And to top it off...we found out that after we left the festival on Sunday evening, (the last day of the festival) they destroyed our tent when we left it intentionally to donate to good causes (tents and sleeping bags left behind at the festival are donated to the homeless) and they also BURNT our sleeping bags and JohnBs bag with all his possesions in it. Luckily he had his passport and that we had gotten out of there.Very mixed feelings overall for this festival...the bands were good...everything else was an eyeopener.
