Later in the morning we went for a walk in the National Park where we saw lots of lizards and orb spiders. That was then followed by a refreshing dip in the sea. We met a Costa Rican called Roberto on the beach and he is taking us turtle spotting tonight so fingers crossed we might see a Leatherback turtle nesting!
We went on an amazing 3 hour boat trip this morning up the Tortuguero canals, a series of waterways which run parallel to the coast. We left at 6am on our host's electric powered (silent) boat. It rained very heavily in the night but cleared up just before our tour. The scenery was spectacular, rainforest clad river banks teeming with wildlife. We saw many birds including toucans, herons, kingfishers, anhinga and a sungrebe. We also saw a beautiful spectacled caiman which we got very close to, and howler monkeys. With a bit of help from the new camera I managed to take some good shots!
