We have finally arrived in Tortuguero after an early 5AM start and epic journey. We landed in the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose, last night and booked ourselves into a cheap backpackers place. Unfortunately our room was right next to the bar which played banging techno until the early hours! After a rather unsatisfactory sleep we woke up at 5am and got a taxi to the Caribe bus terminal. From here we took a 4 hour bus drive to Cariari. The journey should normally take 2 hours but a landslide meant we had to take a long detour. Not that this was a problem as we drove through some amazing scenery; rainforest clad mountains and rivers rushing down to the Atlantic. We reached Cariari bus station around 11am and changed onto the bus for La Pavona. This was a further hour down a bumpy road which eventually reached the Tortuguero river. Here we boarded a boat for the ride into Tortuguero National Park and to Tortuguero village. The boat ride up the river was amazing and we reached Casa Marbella and it's friendly owner Daryl Loth. This place just looks fantastic, we cannot wait to get exploring!
