Crossing the Kyzyl-Kum Desert, Kazakhstan

After Baikanur we had three long days of driving and three nights of bush camping crossing the desert of southern Kazakhstan. I personally tried to bring a civilizing moment to all this when I managed to find all the ingredients for Bloody Marys at a supermarket in Kyzylorda. I made Bloody Marys for all, a nice change I hope from the watery beer that seems to be the favored form of alcohol when camping. The only true sight we visited during this crossing was Sauron, the ruins of a mud brick fortress in the Kyzyl-Kum desert west of Turkistan.
