My friend John joined me for my first two weeks of travel.  Nowadays he tests software in Nashville and his travel is pretty limited to the standard couple weeks of freedom a year most Americans are allowed by their employers.  He chose four cities to visit (Munich, Vienna, Prague, Berlin) that I have already been to but am eager to see again since they are amoung my favorites.  It can be interesting to see how cities change in a decade and there are plenty of sights I haven't seen and experiences I haven't had in each.

Munich is one of my favorite cities even though much of it either modern or a reconstruction of what was destroyed in WWII.  We lucked out on Saturday night when we stumbled upon Starkbierfest at the Lowenbrauhaus by following the crowds of traditionally dressed people to the big building with a whole on roasting outside on a spit.  About 15 Euros got us in the door for a rowdy night of Oktoberfest-style Bavarian oompah bands, ox meat/onion/potato fry, and liter steins of strong dark beer.  5,000 people dressed in lederhosen and funny hats can't be wrong!

Other places may have more cities more worldy, mountains higher, patures greener, villages quainter, churches more ornate, or cultures more traditional, but in all my travels there's no place like Bavaria!
