Balboa Park is a wonderful urban green space, San Diego's equivalent of New York's Central Park or San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, one that houses most of the city's museums and its world-famous zoo as well a multitude of gardens and other cultural venues. The downtown and central parts of San Diego are far livelier and more built up than I recall they were when I briefly tried to make it my home more than twenty years ago, clearly one of America's urban renaissance success stories. I definitely think I could live in San Diego even though there's no skiing nearby and the mountain recreation in the area isn't as extensive as that near Denver. But surfing can be fun too!
