Like Saint George's Castle in Elmina, Cape Coast Castle was a trading fort that passed through the control of several European powers during its history.  It has the historical notoriety of having been the single largest slave-trading center in West Africa.
After a very tasty and spicy lunch at the next door Castle Beach Restaurant we had another castle tour of the fort and the slave dungeons, this time with a particularly impassioned guide whose mannerisms contrasted greatly with the more typically Ghanaian reserve and soft-spoken nature of the guide at Saint George's.  As the former British colonial capital Cape Coast looked like an interesting town, attractive in the way neglected colonial towns with decaying architectural splendor can be.  Our tight schedule to get us to Accra before dark, however, didn't leave me any time to explore the town's other sights.
