Background: We had spent two days crossing the Sahara along the Atlantic coast and were camped on a bluff overlooking the sea on a somewhat damp misty night perhaps halfway between Laayoune and Dakhla in Western Sahara. After dinner we built a campfire which perhaps six or seven of us sat around talking politics.
The Dream: The sequence of events in this dream is also not very clear but the setting of the dream was definitely Marrakech. What I recall about the dream was being followed and stalked by a Berber man in a turban and long jelaba who wanted to either rob me or kill me. I recall being very frightened throughout the dream as I wandered through the souks and alleyways of Marrakech, partly because I was not quite clear on the identity of my pursuer

. Thus, I was fearful and suspicious of each man dressed as such that I passed, worried that he might be the one who was out to get me. Once in a while in the souk I would exchange glances with the one who was after me and recall feeling I was on the run throughout the dream but do not remember actually meeting him or any confrontation taking place between us.Analysis: Aspects of this dream reflect not an experience of mine but rather that of man I was chatted with in a cafe on the Djemaa El-Fna Square in Marrakech. Philippe was a rather buff blond Frenchman who was sitting at a table adjacent to mine. He told about me how he had been mugged at knifepoint late the night before while on his was back to his hotel. Perhaps four days later the story was still on my mind.
