Hello everyone,
Thanks for the phone calls and the messages. I really miss everyone. I think I will feel much better once the other Indiana University Students arrive on Monday. Today was a crazy day at school. I was taught first grade (46 students), which is really hard because they really do not understand english and my accent is still new to them. During p.e. (which I have to teach) I decided to take them outside to do jumping jacks and some other activities. We went outside and did our activities and then I had them line up, which was a chore. I would move to tell the rest of the line to stand in the back of the line, and the front of the line would follow me to the back. We went in circles for about ten minutes. I FINALLY got them to form two lines, boys and girls. Well, during our activity the students had taken off thier shoes (I guess that is normal) and threw them in a pile on the ground. So the pile of shoes were laying next to our line. I kept telling them to put their shoes on, but they didn't understand. A few of the students would pick up some shoes and throw them on top of the pile. After about another ten minutes of this, I took a shoe, placed it on the foot of a student and told them to "put their shoes on so we could go to class." Oh my goodness wait till you hear what they did......they picked up their shoes and started running down this huge hill, to class. I was mad that they were running, but at the same time I didn't care because I was glad that I finally got them to get their shoes and go to class. Just as I started walking down the hill, the kids come running out of class, back up the hill to where I was. I guess I told them to put their shoes in the classroom and then come back out. By this time all I could do was laugh. There were a few teachers outside having lunch, they were probably wondering, "what kind of American lesson is she doing?" I finally lined them up and we walked back to class. I tried to explain to my supervising teacher what happened, but she didn't understand either. So I am glad I can share my story with all of you.
I hope you enjoy my pictures. I will be taking more this weekend. I am going to the rainforest either tomorrow or next Saturday. I can't wait. Taylor, tell everyone in Ms. Strong's class that I will try to get a picture of a "caiman" while I am in the rainforest. Also, everyday I write in the journal you gave me. Thank you so much!
About the terriorist threat in Kenya, that is about 12 hours away from me, so no worries. I just wanted to tell everyone that.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful time in Indiana. I often wonder if it's raining there. The weather here is amazing. I love it! Oh ya before I forget....I heard that Thomas Jones that played for the Bears (my favorite player) has been traded to the Jets?!? That makes me so mad :-(
I will try to add more pictures over the weekend. I miss everyone and hope you all are doing okay.
Love always,
Jacquie
