Having a great time so far, just need to find somewhere to live and become fluent in Portuguese - easy!
My first week was fairly daunting I won't lie, thought I was good to go with the Portuguese... how wrong I was! Got so confused during my first ordering in a restaurant experience that the waiter felt sorry for me and brought me a free dessert because "he wanted me to try something typically Brazilian" - I had ordered a ham and cheese sandwich!? Very embarrassing... oh and the dessert was two MASSIVE figs?! Seriously gross but I ate them all up just to be polite!
Met a load of Irish on my first night, went to a wine and cheese evening - think I had told a few people about it before I headed over here!? Managed to successfully avoid eating any cheese without getting found out, serious result
From that, got invited to a dinner with my very first married gay couple friends! LOVE them! They're straight out of Modern Family, painfully funny! Went to a very posh dinner and a photography exhibition don't you know - that's how I roll now.
Also went for drinks with my godmother's nephew - half-Irish, half-Mexican guy from Texas... I thought he was from Wexford before I met him!! Anyway he was great craic so we decided to go on a road trip my first weekend which was deadly - went to a place called Maresias which is only a few hours away from the city but feels like you could be a million miles away! We were the only gringoes in the place and obviously everyone thought we were a couple - cue VERY awkward moment at a guest house when lady shows us (very proudly) her best room, complete with hot tub in the bedroom!? Ha ha ha I dunno who was more uncomfortable me or him!!
There was a massive Pacha-type nightclub there that was opening for the summer season so we went along to that and had a great time. It was supposed to be house music, so I wasn't sure how good it was going to be but sure they were blasting our Adele all night - I was in my element!
Was back to reality after that when I started work... office is great craic in fairness though. And my boss work's from home so I'm procrastinating like a true professional on all tasks! Two Irish guys and four Brazilians all working in the same office - they're all really really sound so couldn't be happier with the set up!
Night life here is pretty good, the restaurants and bars around where I'm living/working at the moment are the best in Sao Paulo - INCREDIBLY expensive though! Like you wouldn't even believe, Dublin is bargain basement compared to this shit... madness!
Anyway, I've just been sort've finding my feet so far... walking around loads and just generally getting to know the place!
Don't want to go on any more than I have already, hopefully this'll get more interesting as we go along!?
Comment away and hopefully it'll work like a chain of emails?! If not then I give up... and will probably just send a chain of emails!
Love you all, and missing everyone at home loads!
