Where I stayed
Copenhagen GO Hotel
We had a very early rise this morning.. a train to Frankfurt and then a flight to Finland. Frank took us to the station and we said our goodbyes. He will be in Australia later in the year.. so it will be nice to see him again and return the favour.
The ride to Frankfurt only took a few hours.. and the train went directly into the airport. Only problem was.. it was the wrong airport! We needed to be at Frankfurt-Hahn.. which was about 100km away.. a 1.5 hour bus ride. We were never going to make it in time. So.. we wasted money on tickets we never used!
Oh well.. all we could do is laugh about it. Though it was all that funny at the time.
It was time for us to think about what we could do. We could waste our time taking the bus to the elusive airport and beg them to put us on another plane (an unlikely situation) or waste more money booking another flight (a miserable prospect).. or we could do what we eventually did.
We were going to take in Copenhagen and Stockholm AFTER seeing Finland.. but we decided to change our schedule slightly and reverse our itiniary. We were on our way to Copenhagen!
We had arranged a place to stay.. so the first thing we needed to do was find some free wifi. Not so simple. The airport had multitudes of hard to use internet kiosks with ridiculous rates and a really slow downstream. After 3 minutes and 2 EUR I gave up. We thought that perhaps the airport would have a McDonalds with wifi. We found the McDonalds.. ordered breakfast.. and pulled out our computers.. but no wifi! This was starting to get frustrating.
We eventually gave up and agreed we would search for wifi when we pulled into Hamburg
A tip for those thinking about travelling by train in Europe.. pee on the train.. not at the station. Why you ask? Because the toilet is free on the train! I think it's quite silly that a place that is full of food outlets makes one pay to relieve oneself after consuming what essentially has prompted one's need for relief. Or am I the one being silly?
The trip from Hamburg to Copenhagen was interesting. Between Germany and Denmark is a stretch of water.. so we needed to take a ride on a ferry.. and by that I mean the train took a ride. Yes.. the entire train rolled onto the ferry and rolled out the other side! It was a big ferry.
To cut a long and boring story short.. we arrived into Copenhagen just as the sun set. We had only a minor hiccup getting to the hotel. I wrote down the train to get on.. and station to get off at.. but neglected to write down an address! Fortunately.. the hotel was maybe 100m from the station. Phew!
After a somewhat stressful day.. we relaxed in our inexpensive but rather comfortable beds for a well earned sleep.
