Where I stayed
We slept a little longer than we should have and made a dash for the train station.. a mission in itself since the station we needed to be at was on the other side of town. To get there we needed to take three separate metro trains.. and we needed to get there in about 20 minutes. It took about 40 minutes and we missed our reservation.
The next available seats were not available until later in the day.. some 7 hours later! Luckily.. we were allowed to transfer our missed reservation to the new one without incurring a penalty.
So we had some time to kill.. and rather than let the mornings disappointment affect us we decided to make the most of our spare time
We used a nearby laundermat which was an experience all of its own. All the machines and signage were in French.. but we did manage to work out how to use them.
After typing emails and skyping loved ones we took a more leisurely trip back to the station and waited for our train to Fribourg.
We enjoyed some very expensive Swiss merlot while looking at the amazing scenery as we rolled through French and Swiss country. I tried taking some photos but the camera does not do it justice.
It was nearly a five hour trip to reach Fribourg.. with a change at Genève. We were met by a very old friend of mine named Manuel. He was my nextdoor neighbour when I was a little kid! I had not seen Manuel for about 20 years and coming to visit him in Switzerland after all this time was something neither of us thought would ever happen.
Rather than go straight back to his house we were taken to a local bar and tried a few different beers (Leffe is still my favourite so far). I introduced him and his friends to the Jager Bomb.. which they enjoyed! We drank and played bocce.
The people here in Fribourg are very nice and were excited to meet some Australians. Fribourg is not generally a town that sees many tourists.. so for them talking to us was a real novelty.
We stayed out until the early hours partying at various Fribourg nightspots.. and at around 5am we went to bed. A great way to be welcomed to Switzerland.
