We started at 9 am and had our first major stop at Ricoletta Cemetary. The cemetery is such an amazing place. It really makes you reflect. The stories and the history of the place are amazing. It is also a little creepy as you can see the coffins in most of the graves. The kids enjoyed feeding the cats that live in the Cemetary. We also saw Evita's grave. We also went to the church by the Cemetary and spent a few minutes at the market. Although I have been to Ricoletta once before, I find it one of the highlights of the city and I never seem to have long enought to truly explore the entire place.
We left Recoletta to join out noon tour of Theatro Colon. The theatre had just reopened in 2010 and it was beautiful
We stopped at Cafe Tortoni for a small lunch. I am glad we stopped at Cafe Tortoni (I think it is an interesting place to see and there is a lot of history in the place. We visited the Pink House, and Congress. We saw where Evita waved from the second floor of the Pink Palace. It was nice to visit on a Saturday as the traffic was not too bad.
We the drove through San Telmo and headed for La Boca. We saw the soccer stadium for the La Boca Juniors and walked down the famous street in the La Boca neighborhood. La Boca was very interesting and looked like a fun place to look around, but we were on a tight schedule. On the way back to Puerto Madero, we drove through some of the slums of Buenos Aires. As with all major cities, this area was very poor. The interesting thing was that the next neighborhood (Puerto Madero) was the wealthiest neighborhood in the city.
We then drove to the women's bridge in Puerto Medar0. I was surprised at how the neighborhood had grown since we were here in 2006. We walked across the bridge and took several pictures. Then our 8 hour tour was over.
Mariam let us out at the Ricoletta market where we did a little shopping at the outdoor market
We managed to catch a taxi back to the hotel and we were done for the day.
We we lucky we had such great weather for the middle of winter. It was warm and sunny all day it was a great day in Buenos Aires.
We were very lucky to have such a nice day to take the city tour.
