My first visit to The National Mall was celebrated with a huge Montecristo cigar. I remember being impressed by the monuments and historic significance of the area. Also, I recall being fascinated by the calmness that marked a place that is so turbulent from a political perspective.

The National Mall has not changed. I have not changed. US Politics has not changed. The area is still beautiful as stately white buildings and marble statues contrast with a clear azure sky. Although I traverse the Mall at least once every week, I still enjoy the significance of this place. I do not forget that I am living in Washington at a time when the US is probably at the pinnacle of its power. And US politics is lively as ever - debating future presidential policies or Obama's choices in fashion.

Last Sunday I finally completed my Grand Tour of the Mall. I still think my Montecristo was well spent. After paying a visit to the Library of Congress and Supreme Court I can now claim to have seen it all!

Please try the first link for a virtual tour of the main buildings.
