Like many things in the capitol, Meridian Hill Park has a particular history. Long before the park was built in 1914 native Americans used the area as a path up the hills. It was Thomas Jefferson who promoted the idea of the earth's prime meridian running directly north of the White House. That route is now 16th street in Washington, which leads straight to the Oval Office and along Meridian Hill Park. The 'revitalised' park was opened in 1994 by Bill Clinton.
On Sundays people come to Meridian Hill Park to enjoy the rhythm of the drum circle of play Frisbee on the lawn. While being guarded by statues of Dante, Jeanne d'Arc and former President James Buchanan, I will continue enjoying my stay with other classics like Plato and Aristotle. And perhaps I will come back in a few years for some reminiscin'.
