We now de-park our car and head towards the most westerly point of Europe, Cabo da Roca. Some years ago we visited the southernmost point, Punta de Tarifa in Spain. Now with the westernmost point under our belt, we only need the northernmost (North Cape, Norway) and easternmost, somewhere in the Urals of Russia, though it is somewhat unlikely that we will be visiting these places in our lifetime. 1. The countryside is beautiful as we wind along pretty lanes through woods and farms towards the cape. 2. You may have seen this photo before.

We arrive just before sunset. We read the inscriptions, get photographed in the right place, then await the spectacular sunset. The next major land mass from here is America. 3. Sunset at Cabo da Roca

Returning towards Cascais, we stop at a remote but attractive restaurant. The Refugio da Roca claims to be "The Last Restaurant in Europe". We like the menu, and the manager advises us that the place will open at 7:00 pm. Seems that the staff has dinner first, and it's not a quick snack. They are all seated at a table and waited on with a full dinner and wine.

The wait was well worth it. One of the best meals we had in Portugal. Miryam enjoyed grilled salmon and I grilled sea bass. We also ordered a bottle of wine from the vineyard just down the road. Impressive. In spite of its location, the restaurant was full by the time we left.
