On our last day I accompany Ed on his jogging trail. Not being a jogger myself, I follow him on a bicycle, which is much more relaxing! We drive around Whitinsville to take some last photos and make a stop at the State House in Providence. Rhode Island is the smallest state in the USA, but the State House certainly doesn't presuppose that minor fact.

Ed looks at his watch.

"Aren’t you supposed to be leaving at 12:30?" he asks. “It’s already 11:00. It’ll take at least 30 minutes to get to the airport and check in. Will there be enough time? “

We rush to the car and speed towards the airport. If we miss the flight there will be a heavy penalty to pay. One of the airlines greatest profit centres today are “change fees”.

Ed drops us off at the entrance to the airport and we rush inside.

“Your flight is delayed. Mechanical problems. Here’s a US$ 12 voucher for lunch.”

The problem doesn’t seem to get resolved as the day wears on, and eventually passengers are called to the airline ticket counter.

“I’m terribly sorry for this misfortune” says the counter agent to us. “I’m afraid we can’t get you to Fort Lauderdale today. We can get you to Atlanta and we will accommodate you there until tomorrow, or you can stay here in Providence.”

“Can’t we even get to Miami?” I ask.

“Oh! Miami? Yes, if you would accept that we would be most grateful.”

Little does she know that we have chosen Fort Lauderdale as our origin point because it was much cheaper than departing from Miami? We board our new flight and with a short layover in Atlanta, are back in Miami by the early evening. Our home is just a short taxi ride from the airport. What a gratifying end to our weekend in Massachusetts.
