Next day we enjoy a memorable breakfast served by an amiable intern from Ireland. "I just loved living on Cape Cod this summer" she tells us, "The fact that I have to go back home to my wet and windy Ireland depresses me so much. I want to do everything I can to come back." From these positive experiences, new immigrants are made!

Today we take the scenic inland route through Barnstable and Yarmouth to Chatham. I had always imagined the Cape to be just one giant sand dune, but that's not the case. It is quite heavily settled with excessively cute villages surrounded by delightful woodland scenery.

Chatham is quite a typical town on the Cape. We stop off at the famous Chatham Bars Inn to ogle how the rich and famous spend their weekends, and are persuaded to partake of lunch on the terrace. It is a lovely lunch in an enchanted location. That poor Ed has to take out a second mortgage to settle the account is of small import to the rest of us.

The seashore is impossibly beautiful and the town itself is like a picture postcard.

We drive past elegant multimillion dollar homes, probably just used for a few months in the summer, and end up at the mainland portion of the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge. It is so peaceful and gives one the impression of how Cape Cod would have appeared to the first settlers.

On the way back we pass a restaurant called Cape Cod Super Buffet. We pop in and finds that in fact it is a Chinese place, but with a large selection of sea food as well. Not gourmet, but certainly cheap and cheerful. It certainly helps our budget after all the expensive meals we have shouldered up to now.
