Cordoba
from Cafayate we had the last two tickets to Tucuman (bought two days early) whence we hoped to leave for Mendoza.
the drive to Tucuman is a nice one, winding up the parched mountain on the Cafayate side, entering mist at the pass and then dropping into dense greenery on the Tucuman side.
Tucuman is supposed to be nice, but on our limited view just seemed like an ordinary busy city to us. There are some attractive buildings around the plaza, where we were warned of scorpions. But we didn`t see any, which was a disappointment to me.
We could not get tickets to Mendoza for two days. We did not want to waste two days, so we changed plans and headed for Cordoba instead. Cordoba really is nice. Pleasant plaza with a large monument to the glory of Argentina, old buildings, interesting murals and heaps of shops where we managed to buy such crucial items as really big plastic bags (for putting backpacks in). It has been surprisingly hard to find such items, except in bags of ten which is really more than we need (we have lots of luggage but not that much).
We only spent one full day here, and didn't get out for any excursions, but it would be easy to stay much longer.
The excursions lay ahead, as we moved on the Argentina's tourist capital - Bariloche.
