After a big trek and long drive, it's great to finish the day with a cold beer, and what better place to choose than Oakdale, the 'Cowboy Capital of the World’. This small town harks back to the gold mining days and was foundered in 1871.

We found our usual budget hotel then made our way to a local bar called House of Beef (H&B) Saloon. This saloon has the original swing wooden doors, real cowboys and was decorated with historic cowboy memorabilia.  We stuck out like a sore thumb and had plenty of ‘strangers just ran into town’ looks – maybe it was because we were not sporting huge cowboy hats, or perhaps cowgirls don’t wear skinny bright green jeans and Ugg boots. We chatted to one local cowboy who explained that the rodeo was the main annual event, but that did not start until April.  We enjoyed a few beers, but we were very guarded as this bar is famous for getting a bit heated once the locals were topped up with the local ale and whiskey.

The following morning K could not miss another boot purchasing opportunity in all the food and grain stores. She managed to get herself a pair of cowboy boots convinced that these were the real deal - BA have been notified they may need a bigger plane.
