We took a boat trip to where they filmed ‘Blue Lagoon’ and the Tom Hanks film ‘Castaway’. The location was truly amazing
We took advantage of life in the village and did simple things such as afternoon tea. A gas stove in a tin hut, made the most delicious coconut cake and hot coffee. Whilst it wasn’t quite upto Starbucks standards, the view was better than any 5 star coffee shop we have vis ited. The owner was an entrepreneurial lady rebuilding after the cyclone . The Sunday morning ‘activity’ was a trip to the Church for service, which we all graciously accepted. The church was a simple tin room, and the priest conducted the service in Fijian. It was pretty heavy going, until they sang the hymns so beautifully, without musical instruments. The chiefs brother thanked us for attending, and warmly invited us to walk around and take photos on our walk back to the resort. We struggled with the service but the choir made it a worthwhile experience.
Even though the Yasawas are tropical paradise, we decided to spend some of our time on the mainland so we could discover parts of Fiji not specifically aimed at the tourists.
