Having left the glaziers, and knowing we had a big drive ahead, it was a great plan to find of a nice cosy campsite with hot water and a wide screen TV. As always the best laid plans never go quite go as expected, especially when you are in Wild West gold mining country. En-route to civilisation we discovered Ross, a town without shops, banks, houses or people, but it did have a flourishing local ale house.. The pub, was like a true wild west town, full of males in gum boots, even the sign on the 'ladies' said, " no entry over 250kgs, and No Goats"  Obviously it was a good idea to pick up some ‘coldies’ and rethink our destination.  A few kilometres further was the largest town in the area, Hokitika. After finding a place to stay, we walked to the pub, on ‘annual race day’. Needless to say, it wasn’t quite Cheltenham Gold Cup in Montpelier wine bar, but we still had a few jugs of the local ale, before heading off on a pub crawl to the only other bar in town. Another friendly bar, where a few of the locals wanted to chat to the tourists, but at the end of the evening we again witnessed the only bad thing about NZ, they all drove home absolutely plastered.
