After leaving Ta Anu we decided to eat into our journey up to Queenstown and stayed overnight in a roadside freebie. On arrival in Queenstown it was extra busy due to a Rugby 7's interprovincial tournament. This national rugby sevens tournament, held annually at the Queenstown Recreation Ground, is a local favourite and is well known for its relaxed party atmosphere, crowd entertainment and best of all – exciting, attacking and explosive style of rugby. Sadly we fell into the trap of a whole town alive with a rugby buzz and indulged in far too many beers - this was not helped by it only being 2 pounds a pint. Believe it or not, the Fergburger burger bar was on our list of attractions, so what better time to see if our pre-trip research would pay dividends. Despite the slight influence of alcohol, this burger went straight to the top of the global leader board of burgers consumed, so our thanks go to the NZ Lonely Planet team. Aside from the obvious burger and beer attractions, Queenstown looks a great place so we might have to stay here a few days.
