Flag of New Zealand  , South Island,
Friday, January 4, 2013

Our first photo today is the view of Mount Cook out of our campervan window. It is not surprising that we are already falling behind our planned route because everything is so amazingly beautiful. The country is wonderful, the people are so lovely and the relaxed attitude to life in south island makes it hard to move on too quickly. From the inland scenic route 79, we hit the coast at the Victorian town of Oamaru where K became excited about the SteamPunk theme which M had never heard of.

Continuing our journey south took us to the Moeraki Boulders, 1 to 2 metre spherical boulders formed over 55 million years ago. We then headed further south, deeper into seal and penguin country where M tested his new (second hand) fishing rod and surprisingly blanked - this was clearly due to the seal and penguin dominance.

Our final activity was a beach walk where we discovered a seal colony, we may have overdosed on the seal photos, but how can you blame us when they were so entertaining and the babies are so cute.
