After we got back to Noosa we did a bush walk and spotted an inquisitive Kangaroo, and a wild Koala. Despite seeing and fussing Kangaroos and Koalas in the zoo, seeing them in the wild is always more exciting.
Having enjoyed Steve Urwin documentaries over the years in UK, we wanted to visit his park on the Sunshine Coast. £85 for two zoo tickets seemed steep, but that is typical Australian prices. The zoo is full of Australian animals, most linked with photos of Steve's escapes. The shows were a bit too Disney like for us, but the Koala petting made up for it. We had hoped that our money would go towards animal conservation and not to the shareholders, a later visit to the animal hospital confirmed this. There is an advanced veterinary clinic linked to the zoo which is currently rehabilitating a variety injured animals. Many birds, Kangaroos and over 50 Koalas were all benefiting from the Urwin family efforts, and it is great that Steve’s dream of protecting our animals lives on.
