BELIZE: Placencia
Entry 5 of 6 | show all | print this entry |
We spent 1.5 days in Belize City before heading down to the beach at Placentia. Belize City had a great afro-carribean vibe that I really dug, and although it was unsafe at night in a large part of the city, we liked the frienly and incredibly diverse people. Home to 250,000 people only, the country of Belize is populated with mainly blacks of creole descent, but also latins, whites, chinese, arabs, and others. Really, it´s amazing that this tiny country is so diverse. And they apparently have no real racial tension, so says the chick I met one night in BC (the barmaiden who took a liking to me while my bro and I ate dinner). Anyway, enjoyed BC and meeting lots of interesting people. Also notable was the fact that we were offered weed more than anything else in BC--more than taxis, handicrafts, or even beggars combined!! Belize = Carribean.
