We've been in Madrid for three days now, I've just said goodbye to my mother who has left to go back to the states. I'm sitting at my last nice breakfast meal of my trip (since I have to return to my "backpackers" budget now that my mother has left). So, needless to say, I'm enjoying it . . .
Since arriving in Madrid from the wonderful city of Zaragoza from which we experienced another exciting driving performance by my mother in a stick shift car, our days have been filled. We have seen the famous plazas, including plaza Mayor where the executions and torture chambers existed during the inquisition period. We also met the owner of the oldest restaurant in the world; Botin was established in 1725, and was taken on our own impromtu tour of the landmark. This old haunt was a favorite of Hemingway and the famed Spanish artist, Goya worked here as a dishwasher. We then went to the Prado to see the
dishwashers work (among others) on display.
Today I leave Madrid and head to Lisbon, Portugal for 1 week. I know I haven't posted pictures in a while, I will attempt to do that today.
I'm going eat some more jamon now (free)!
